Real Madrid vs. Barcelona: Messi brights against 10-man rival

Friday, April 22nd, 2011
Lionel Messi is one of those players that show their value in the most challenging moments. He was born to make history, and that is exactly what he did at the Santiago Bernabeu. Ten-man Actual Madrid could not stop the Argentinian footballer, who scored a double. Barcelona’s -2 win over Madrid virtually seals their ticket for the Champions League final.
Yet another gifted footballer was on the pitch. But Cristiano Ronaldo was not meant to be the hero tonight. In truth, this third “clasico” was the most rough 1, with too much violence and quite little space for excellent football.
Now Mourinho’s side should get at least 3 goals in Barcelona, and attempt not to obtain any. Actual Madrid coach already said that “it is mission impossible. We lost to a amazing team, but it is a shame to have referees that constantly support Barcelona”.
Guardiola said this is an essential victory, but he expects to see a die-hard Actual Madrid in the second leg of this semifinal: “a club with nine European titles in no way give up just before playing the game”.

FA Cup: Manchester City vs. Stoke City Preview

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

The FA Cup final is here. Manchester City come in as the clear favorites, but similar to Arsenal in the Carling Cup, they have all of the pressure as they try to turn around their history. Here is a fast look at the game.

Hart
Richards–Kompany–Lescott–Kolarov
De Jong–Milner
Silva–Y. Toure–Johnson
Tevez

For Manchester City, they could be without having Zabaleta as properly as Gareth Barry. Carlos Tevez is still a massive question and whether he will be able to commence. He will be looking forward to this game, so I anticipate him to start off.

Begovic
Wilkinson–Huth–Shawcross–Wilson
Pennant–Whelan–Whitehead–Etherington
Jones–Walters

For Stoke, they will be wanting to hear the status of Robert Huth and Matthew Etherington. Etherington in certain adds a good bit of pace on the wings that they will want.

Stoke City are not going to sit back in this game. They are a team that absorbs pressure and doesn’t hold possession, but they are devastating on the counter attack and when they do have the ball, they know what they are doing as a team, which is pump the ball into the box. This game ought to be a massive test for teh Manchester City centerbacks as they will be the ones dealing with the service into the box.

City, nevertheless, really should have the possession advantage, but they need to show that they can break them down. To a degree, they are a team that prefers to counter, and as a result, it will be large if they can get the very first goal in the game. This is the sort of game they could struggle in as the impetus is on them and the potent running of Yaya Toure is in fact some thing Stoke will be far a lot more capable of containing than the precision passes and runs by David Silva.

The initial objective will be crucial to both teams and if City get it, the game will be carried out. Stoke aren’t the favorites in this game but they will do their portion as they have such a properly-defined style that their team won’t ever give up on attempting to get the goal. As I said, the opening goal will be key, and Manchester City will get it carried out, but it will still be a tough game as they end their trophy drought. Manchester City 2, Stoke City 1

Final Four Preview

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

There’s not much time left for college basketball betting this season, but the best has been saved for last. Here is your Final Four preview.

This year’s Cinderella squads will clash when the Virginia Commonwealth Rams and Butler Bulldogs tip off at 6:00 p.m. ET on Saturday. Butler checks in as a 2.5-point favorite and is gunning for its second consecutive March Madness final appearance.

No. 8 Butler (27-9, 19-14-1 ATS) is riding a 13-game winning streak. The Bulldogs have been deadly against the spread over the past few weeks, winning six consecutive games. The stakes shouldn’t faze the team at all. Not only has Butler been here before, it’s already had enough tense moments this March to battle-harden the squad. The Bulldogs have won their four NCAA Tournament games by a combined 13 points.

Many observers scoffed when VCU (28-11, 18-20 ATS) was granted an at-large berth in the tourney. The Rams were just 5-6 in their final 11 games, but they’ve caught fire at precisely the right time. VCU won its play-in game over USC to claim a No. 11 seed and hasn’t looked back, winning five straight—including a 5-0 run against the spread.

A few hours later (7:45 p.m. ET), two traditional basketball powerhouses will collide when the Kentucky Wildcats take on the Connecticut Huskies. The Wildcats are 2-point favorites.

Kentucky (29-8, 17-14-1 ATS) was considered an inferior team compared to last year’s squad, yet the Wildcats have advanced to the Final Four for the first time since 1998. The Wildcats have won 10 straight games and are 7-1 in their last eight outings against the spread (3-0 ATS in their past three). The last three wins came against impressive competition: No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2 North Carolina, and No. 5 West Virginia.

UConn (30-9, 21-12 ATS) might just be the hottest team in the country. The Huskies have won nine consecutive games, beginning with an impressive run in the Big East Tournament (wins over Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and Louisville). Connecticut also had eight straight wins against the spread before its Elite Eight win over Arizona (the Huskies won 65-63, failing to cover as 3.5-point favorites).

Premier League: Relegation Battle Heats Up

Monday, April 18th, 2011

There are only two rounds of games left and the battle at the bottom is heating up. Here is a look at the teams still in the fight.

Aston Villa (42 pts) (at Arsenal, vs. Liverpool)
Villa only require a point to survive but they have a tough two game schedule. The Arsenal game could be a chance for a point given their state, but they are likely safe more due to the fact the teams below them won’t be finding sufficient points to catch Villa.

Blackburn (39 pts) (vs. Manchester United, at Wolverhampton)
They got a valuable point on the weekend, but they face the near champions in United. If they can get a point, they will be pleased. The final game against Wolves could be large. Blackburn will be looking for their attack to step up as their defense has been solid specially Christopher Samba who was dominant against West Ham this past weekend. Their capability to play pragmatically may possibly be enough to see them earn sufficient points to survive.

Birmingham (39 pts) (vs. Fulham, at Tottenham)
Birmingham didn’t push on after winning the Carling Cup, but now it is all about survival. They are almost certainly close to survival, but they require some far more points to really feel truly safe. Some of their signings haven’t panned out this season, but their defense, and Ben Foster, have carried them. They need to have just sufficient to make it out, but they are still vulnerable.

Wolverhampton (37 pts) (at Sunderland, vs. Blackburn)
Wolves got a huge win and they are a tough team to realize. They don’t score goals, but they defend very well. They are presented with two winnable games so they have to really feel like they are capable of surviving. They have defeated the top teams, but haven’t gotten it completed near the bottom teams. They will require to do so in order to survive.

Blackpool (36 pts) (vs. Bolton, at Manchester United)
Blackpool got a point against Tottenham, but they haven’t won in a long time. Bolton and United, who could have the title locked up, are ideal fixtures for them, but to be honest, I don’t see them doing especially nicely as they appear to be a team in free fall and just a single point last weekend doesn’t alter that reality.

Wigan (36 pts) (vs. West Ham, at Stoke City)
This weekend could be their massive game to advance. Wigan have ground out points here and there, but they need to have a win and West Ham are ripe for the picking. They play some pretty football, but they don’t capitalize enough on those chances. The open style doesn’t constantly work well with a relegation battle, but the experience from last year could support them out here.

West Ham United (33 pts) (at Wigan, vs. Sunderland)
West Ham necessary three points from the weekend but only left with on. This weekend for Wigan is a final chance where anything much less than a win puts them fundamentally down. They are a team that is difficult to figure out, but in numerous ways, they have shown that the team have moments of individual brilliance, but they aren’t a group that plays together.

Looking into the final games, West Ham are completed for me and Blackpool is an additional team I don’t see surviving. Wolverhampton and Wigan are battling for the last spot with Wolverhampton acquiring the edge with a slightly less complicated set of games just before them. Even so, if there is 1 thing we have learned this season, it is that anyone can beat anyone on a given weekend, so even with two weeks, there are some turns left in the season.

Go ahead and let me know who you see staying up and going down.

There is one more round of games this weekend as the season is practically a third of the way completed. Seattle and Portland meeting up once again is certainly the top game of the week. Here is a look at the games.

Gameweek 9 I Know The Score
Toronto FC vs. Chicago
Toronto has been powerful at home and their offense will continue to cause problems as they defeat Chicago. Toronto FC 2, Chicago 1

DC United vs. Colorado
Colorado are a powerful side even though DC United continue their high scoring offense. United are decent at property, but Colorado will frustrate them sufficient to get a road point. DC United 2, Colorado 2

New England vs. Vancouver Whitecaps
New England plays powerful at residence and they will take down a Vancouver side which has not been at his strongest as of late. New England 2, Vancouver Whitecaps 1

FC Dallas vs. Philadelphia Union
Dallas still have not have enough attacking output, and they have a tough challenge against Philadelphia. It will be a tight game, but FC Dallas will just edge it out. FC Dallas 2, Philadelphia Union 1

Actual Salt Lake vs. Houston
Salt Lake got back to his winning techniques and Houston’s defense is prone to mistakes. Those errors will price them once more as RSL win at home. Real Salt Lake 3, Houston

Los Angeles vs. Kansas City
Los Angeles looked back to their very best last weekend, but had a tough week with a game against Philadelphia in the midweek. Kansas City have a potent attack, but it will be LA’s midfield that will win them this game. Los Angeles 2, Kansas City 1

Write-up Content:
In a surprise move, the New York Knicks and recently acquired swingman Corey Brewer have completed a buyout that will permit Brewer to turn out to be a totally free agent and sign with any team he wishes. Where will Corey Brewer end up? My funds would be on the Boston Celtics. Other teams reportedly interested contain the Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs.

Why Corey Brewer to the Celtics? Boston is desperate for swingman depth. Even though they recently traded for Jeff Green, he’s a lot more of a power forward than a legit tiny forward. Brewer, on the other hand, can play both modest forward and shooting guard. Plus he brings the defensive intensity required in the Celtics method.

Brewer was acquired by the Knicks from the Minnesota Timberwolves, where the 24-year-old averaged 8.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in 24.three minutes. He struggled with his shooting — hitting only 38.4% of his shots from the field and 26.three% of his three-pointers — which may well have led the Knicks to attempt a contract buyout.

Corey Brewer to the Celtics?
