Bengals May Trade Carson Palmer After All

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

Last month when quarterback Carson Palmer told the Cincinnati Bengals that he wanted to be traded, team president Mike Brown said the team wasn’t going to deal its franchise player. Palmer had threatened to retire and walk away from the remaining four years and some $ 50 million on his contract if he wasn’t dealt, and it now appears that the Bengals may well think him.

Cincinnati has the No. four overall pick in this year’s draft and has been meeting with the top quarterbacks at the NFL Scouting Combine. Cincy ought to have its option of QBs that high, likely either Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert or Heisman winner Cam Newton of Auburn really should the team determine to go that route. Coach Marvin Lewis said late last week that the team was proceeding this offseason as if Palmer won’t play.

“You want a guy in the fourth spot that is going to be a game changer next year, a guy you can develop a franchise around. We can go in a lot of various directions. I know on offense we can,” new offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said of the team’s initial choose.

Cincinnati would prefer, no doubt, to have Palmer play next season as a rookie QB sits and learns and then trade Palmer soon after the 2011 season. But SI.com’s Peter King reported Monday that a team official said the Bengals will listen to delivers for Palmer when the new collective bargaining agreement is finalized – whenever that is. Surely Palmer would draw some delivers, with teams like the Vikings, 49ers, Cardinals and Seahawks expected to be interested in Palmer. Absent a new CBA, no present players might be traded.

Zach Randolph may be the most quietly dominant bigman in the NBA. The huge power forward for the Memphis Grizzlies was loud on Sunday as his 17-foot rainbow shot with .three seconds remaining beat the Dallas Mavericks. The 104-103 victory improved the Grizzlies to 35-29 and snapped the Mavs’ eight game winning streak. Watch the Zach Randolph game winning jumper in the video below.

With less than 15 seconds remaining, Shane Battier scored to put the Grizzlies up by a point. Dirk Nowitzki responded for the Mavs with a 15-footer with three seconds to go. That’s when Zach Randolph hit his hard jumper for the win.

For the game, Zach Randolph was 10-for-13 from the field on his way to 27 points and nine rebounds. Marc Gasol chipped in 16 points and ten rebounds as the Grizzlies utilised a 41-23 third quarter to an 18-point Dallas benefit.

The Mavs had been led by Jason Terry’s 26 points off the bench. Nowitzki added 23 points. The Mavs, 45-17, are now only 1-game ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers for the second seed in the Western Conference standings.

Premier League: Another Look At Manchester United Victory Over Chelsea

Saturday, June 25th, 2011

It was a rapidly start off by Manchester United finding a objective 36 seconds into the game when Javier Hernandez got behind the defense. United added another when Vidic headed in a Ryan Giggs cross in the 23rd minute. Chelsea got one back via Frank Lampard just before the 70th minute, but even after that they never really sustained attacks and in a lot of methods had been lucky to not conceded much more objectives.

Nonetheless, the factor that I most noted in this game was the end of the Chelsea midfield. The group seems to have deteriorated. Frank Lampard looks a shell of a player he utilized to be, but Michael Essien has lost a step as he by no means when unleashed a classic run into the attacking third. Ramires has energy, but there is a lack of penetration that effort alone can’t accomplish. They are one of the few top teams that had been not able to overpower the United midfield. Furthermore, they don’t have any true wingers to maximize the play on the wings.

That is where Manchester United won the league, in my opinion. Their forwards have hat hot and cold spells and the midfield has not been overpowering, but there have been few games when Manchester United hasn’t dominated the wings and that is one of the greatest factors they will likely be crowned champions once again. In this game, Manchester United showed off all of their strengths. Rooney and Hernandez were menaces for the defense. Valencia destroyed Ashley Cole. Carrick and Giggs were composed and the defense dealt with most threats.

Going back to Chelsea, the team could be ready for a decent overhaul. The defense appears solid but there are problems of depth and David Luiz needs a lot more encounter as he made a number of mistakes in the 1st half which includes not communicating nicely with John Terry on the first goal. The attack looks to want lots of retooling. Malouda and Kalou have flashes but not consistent. However, the larger problem is Drogba and Torres not playing nicely together. Drogba ended the season as their most productive forward, but he appears the most likely to move of the forward group to be moved on in the summer.

Even so, United will celebrate what was pretty a lot a title clincher. It hasn’t been the most beautiful of performances all season, but they have been dominant at home with 52 points out of a possible 54. Their road performances haven’t been great, but now they only want a point on the road next week and a 12th Premier League title will be theirs.

Josh Beckett was standing in the outfield when he was accidentally hit the head with a baseball off the bat of a team staffer. The Boston Red Sox picture didn’t have to go to the hospital but he was sent home with symptoms of a concussion. Even though the Red Sox don’t believe Beckett’s injury is severe, they will conduct further tests tomorrow.

Said Terry Francona, manager of the Red Sox: “I believe it hit him in the temple. I bet you it felt like a bolt of lightning. That’s not genuinely what you’re expecting. It’s just a fluke factor.”

Ino Guerrero is the staffer who hit the ball that hit Beckett in the head. Francona wasn’t too happy with Guerrero, whose principal duty is as a batting practice pitcher.

“I known as him a dumb !@#$ ,” said Francona when asked what he told Guerrero right after the incident.

Beckett is coming off of a hard campaign that saw his ERA balloon to 5.78. If the Red Sox have a legit chance of winning the 2011 World Series, they want their could-be ace to pitch much far better this year.

The final score doesn’t tell the story of how significantly the Lakers killed the Spurs. At the end of the first quarter, the Lakers were up 34-13. Their lead at halftime was 65-37. Despite the impressive showing, Kobe Bryant didn’t think it meant anything in the massive picture.

Said Kobe: “I don’t think it’s that massive of a message that we sent these days.”

“We know we’re capable of having games like this and San Antonio knows we’re capable of having games like this. It just as easily could go the other way around,” Kobe continued.

Kobe led the way for the Lakers with 26 points. Pau Gasol added 21 points, six rebounds and five assists. That said, the very best player on the court for the Lakers may have been Andrew Bynum, who pulled down 17 rebounds and blocked three shots in 27 minutes of action.

Manchester United is one step closer to the semis: they beat Chelsea 1-0

Sunday, June 19th, 2011
Stamford Bridge Stadium has been a tough pitch for Manchester United, but the history chaged last night. Ferguson’s team defeated Chelsea -1 with a great goal scored by Wayne Rooney.
This quarterfinal duel is not decided however, but United took one step of advantage with this result. Rooney’s goal – which came right after a superb move of Ryan Giggs – can be a essential factor in the end.
Chelsea almost score the equalizer when Fernando Torres blasted his shot close to the post, but Van der Sar stopped the ball.
Alex Ferguson said that “nothing is decided yet, but this victory is actually critical”. The ticket for the semifinals will be decided on April 12, at the Old Trafford Stadium.

Struggling Lakers Seek Redemption After Break

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

The Los Angeles Lakers have struggled of late, at least in comparison to the lofty expectations fans and NBA bettors had of them prior to the season. As reigning back-to-back champions, the bar has been set reasonably high.

According to Bodog’s on-line sportsbook, they have four/1 odds of winning the NBA championship despite their recent slide.

In the 10 games leading up to last Sunday’s All-Star break, the Lakers had gone five-five – which includes losses in their last 3 consecutive games. This week the club will look to bounce back and reclaim superiority atop the Western Conference. Will there be enough time?

It won’t be easy, but Kobe Bryant’s recent All-Star Game MVP may just give them the essential boost to get over the hump. They’ll have their first true test next Sunday when they pay a visit to Oklahoma City to do battle with Kevin Durant and the Thunder.

Bet on the NBA with Bodog Sportsbook and select sides in Lakers vs. Thunder.

Will Durant continue to lead his young squad to what appears to be property court benefit in the Western Conference? They’ll have their work cut out for them hanging onto a top seed in a tough bracket, but a huge win over the Lakers could go a lengthy way in helping them preserve their current fourth-location position.

The Thunder have been steadily enhancing their NBA forecast for the past three seasons.

Presently third in the West, the Lakers are in a position where anything less than a No. 1 seed will be considered a disappointment. You can envision how that makes captain Bryant feel.

Both teams have their share of incentive to come away with the nationally-televised W this Sunday, so as far as NBA betting is concerned, it might come down to which team can take the essential actions to prepare for the big match.

We’ve observed the Lakers take should-win games countless times before, but we’ve also learned not to underestimate 22-year-old Durant and the Thunder.
